Tauranga Boarding Cattery: A Cat's World

Frequently Asked Questions

I have multiple cats, can they stay together?

Sure! We frequently board the same family's cats together.

What does my cat sleep on?

We provide blankets, comforters, and cuddly fleece bedding. We also have cushioned beds and thick cushioned mats for seniors or arthritic pets (we love cats, and want them to be comfy!) You may bring your own bedding from home if you wish.

Some owners like to leave their pet with something that has the owner's scent. We have found a T-shirt or towel works well. It is small enough to put aside when cleaning and put back for your pet's comfort.

What about toys?

Please feel free to bring toys you think your pet will enjoy having. We suggest one or two. Please understand that we do our best to make sure your pets go home with everything you brought with them, but we will not be responsible for any items brought. If you will be upset if it gets lost, please do not bring it.

What do you feed?

We carry an extensive selection of all dry food, including Hills Science Diet, Royal Canin, Whiskas and Purina. A wet food selection is also available that includes Pet Essentials fresh meat, the Jimbo range and a variety of tinned food.

Can I bring my cat's food?

Many people prefer to bring their cat's food to avoid digestive upsets. We want your cat to be as happy as you do. Please feel free to bring your cat's own food if you like. We ask that you bring it in some type of container which can be clearly labeled with your cat's name. We have feeding dishes, standard measuring cups, and lids for canned food, so you may leave those at home. There is no discount if you bring your own food.

Please include instructions regarding what your cat eats and how much we need to feed. If your cat is on a special diet, bring it with you. We will discuss this with you at check in. We can accommodate most breakfast/dinner routines. We have a refrigerator/freezer and microwave to accommodate any feeding needs.

What if I want my cats to stay together, but they need to be separated for feeding?

This isn't unusual. Please let us know at check in.

My cat is on medication, can he/she still stay?

Yes! We are able to give any type of medication. Please discuss with us how this medication is to be administered. There is no extra charge for administering medication.

My cat is very old, will you board senior pets?

Yes. We have a designated alley for senior cats and any cats that have mobility issues. Please discuss your cat's special needs with us in advance of their boarding stay.

Do you require certain vaccinations to stay at A Cat's World?

Absolutely! You must provide us with a record from your vet stating that your cat is up-to-date with all appropriate vaccinations. This is for the safety of your pet.

The safety of the pets in our care is our primary concern. It is the owner's responsibility to provide us with this information. We suggest discussing your cat's vaccination history with your vet before your bring him or her to the cattery.

What happens if I forget my vaccination record?

We will try to contact your vet and verify your pet's vaccinations but please make every attempt before you arrive to locate these records. This is for the safety of the pets in our care. We strongly recommend your pet's vaccination status in advance to make sure everything is in order before you bring your pet to the cattery. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Can I stop by and have a tour?

Absolutely! We highly recommend this. It is a great opportunity for you to ask us questions, and see first-hand where your cat will stay. This is also the time to discuss any problems or issues you think your cat may have. We do not require an appointment for you to have a tour. Please visit us during our opening hours.

Is anyone there after hours?

Yes! We live on the property. We are frequently in the cattery after business hours. Just like at home, care for your cat doesn't end at 5.30pm!

If someone is there all the time, why can't I pick up or drop off after hours?

Your pets are creatures of habit, and need a consistent routine to be comfortable and happy. The care and comfort of our guests is our priority! They deserve the time to be cared for and relaxed without interruptions. Disruption of their schedule causes anxiety, and we appreciate your cooperation in avoiding it.

How far in advance should I make my boarding reservation?

We suggest that you make your reservation as soon as you know your travel plans. For holidays try to make a reservation in anticipation of your trip. We get booked very quickly over the Christmas and New Year period. Many of our clients' book holidays and summers a year in advance. We require a 50% non-refundable deposit for all reservations made for the Christmas holidays.

What happens if my cat becomes sick during their stay?

We will attempt to make contact with you immediately. Your own vet will also be contacted, but if they are unavailable we have a local vet available 24 hours a day. All vet costs will be passed on to you at the time of pick up.

Will I receive updates of my cats stay with you?

Yes! We are happy for you to contact us by email or phone if you would like an update.
